Our very quick guide to the best beaches on the NC500. We didn't want to flood you with choice but rather give you a guide that can be read in minutes!
Are you tired of reading long long blogs to find out the simple details you need to know? Well this is probably a 2 minute read so you can find your beaches and just get going.
HERE WE GO!
Beach #1 - Achmelvich Beach
This is the one everyone seems to know on the NC500 - it is a fantastic beach and really quite quiet. But my little top tip....From Achmelvich Bay, walk north over the headland and you will find a second secluded beach that for some reason no one knows about. We spent about 2 hours here having lunch and swimming. No one else even disturbed us. So have this as a place you will spend time at for sure!
Beach #2 - Sandwood Beach and Bay
So for beach 2 it's the again famous Sandwood bay beach. This is absolutely stunning - it takes around a 2 hour walk down to the beach from Kinlochbervie but the route is easy and fairly flat apart from the incline down to the beach at the end
Beach #3 - Balnakeil Beach.
On the West/Northern tip of Scotland, if you are early in the day you can camp here and park your camper right at the end of the beach. At sunset the walk along the beach is stunning as you can see from the photo below. Harry loved the place as you can see and didn't really want to leave!
Beach #4 - Dunnet Head Beach
As you drive along the Northern Coast of Scotland on the NC500 at some point you will come to Dunnet Head Beach. It is again a wide open beach with white sand. We found it was a lot more windy than the others due to it's slightly exposed nature on the northern coast. But catch it on the right day and it will be beautiful.
Beach #5 - Applecross Beach
This is a lovely little beach and as our first stop on the trip - we really loved it. We couldn't believe this was such a white sandy beach when we first saw it and frankly that this beach was in Scotland at all. However - as we went the beaches just seemed to get better and better.
Top 5 Beaches of the NC500
So there we go! A very quick canter through the best beaches on the NC500. Check them out for sure. I would almost insist these are the ones you have to stop at and get out and take a look. The Sandwood Bay is well worth that extra effort with the walk!!!
